Two free trade zones boost trade operations of a number of companies along The Danube River. The free trade zones in Vidin and Ruse, managed by National Company Industrial Zones, offer duty and tax relief to over 70 investors. The companies operate in various sectors including engineering, manufacturing of metal components and machinery for the agricultural, pharmaceutical, medical, and food industries among others.

Investors Benefiting from the Strategic Location

The strategic location of the zones is a major advantage to the companies currently operating on their territory. Situated at the cross road of three Pan-European transportation corridors, just meters away from ports on the Danube, the zones provide quick access to key markets within Europe and Asia. Their proximity to the river, including the biggest river port in Bulgaria – Port of Ruse, is also an opportunity to explore intermodal transportation solutions. In order to achieve this potential, the operator of Free Trade Zone Ruse is currently elaborating on a project designed to construct an intermodal terminal.

Ruse Free Zone is located in the north-eastern part of the country on the Romanian border and close to the first bridge on the Danube River as well as the Port of Ruse - the largest river port in Bulgaria. It is on the intersection of Pan-European transport corridors №VII and IX. This is the largest and most successful free zone and all its premises are currently occupied.

The plans envisage the construction of a combined terminal, thus allowing for the provision of loading and handling services for up to 40-feet high containers. These, along with the available infrastructure and gasification of the zone in Ruse, attract multiple companies – both in the trade and manufacturing sector.

One of the biggest investors in Free Trade Zone Ruse is a company with over 80 years of history manufacturing equipment for the pharmaceutical, medical, paper, and food industry. The production base of the company in the zone is one of its six production locations worldwide.

Full-Spectrum Services

Free Trade Zone Vidin and Free Trade Zone Ruse offer full-spectrum services including offices, industrial plots and open-air storage areas for rent, warehousing, loading and handling operations, storing of goods under customs supervision, trans-shipment operations as well as consulting services and customs documents completion among others.

Vidin Free Zone

Vidin Free Zone is located on the north-western border with Romania next to the second Danube Bridge, a freight port and a ship terminal. One of the major investors in the past few years was the Spanish company FCC Construccion, responsible for building Danube Bridge – 2.
